Check Out Requirements

Laptop computers are available to Moraine Valley students, faculty, and staff who must have a current, valid Moraine Valley ID card and a valide state ID or driver's license.  A Laptop Computer Loan Agreement must be completed for each check-out.

Responsibilities

The Circulation staff, in the presence of the patron, will inspect all components when the laptop is checked out and checked in. The patron must personally return the laptop to the Circulation desk. TAKING A LAPTOP OUT OF THE LIBRARY IS CONSIDERED FELONY THEFT OF COLLEGE PROPERTY. Laptops should never be left unattended.

Time Limits and Overdue Fines

The check out period is two hours. One renewal per patron is permitted, per day (maximum four hours per day). The overdue fine for a laptop computer is $10 per hour or fraction of an hour. The laptop must be returned to the Circulation desk 30 minutes before the Library closes, regardless of the check-out time.

Loss, Theft and Damage Costs

The patron will be charged no less than $1,500 for the loss or theft of a laptop computer. Replacement or repair cost varies for each component part. Any lost or damaged parts to the laptop will be charged to the patron. Until this is paid, the patron will be blocked at registration and from borrowing Library materials.

Saving of Documents

Users must save files or document to their own USB flash drive, or e-mail the files and documents to themselves. Any files or documents saved to the laptop's hard drive are erased when the laptop is shut down. The Library is not responsible for lost files or documents. The Library does not provide USB flash drives, but they may be purchased in the College Bookstore.

Printing

Users cannot print from the laptop. Work must first be saved to a USB flash drive or emailed to the user. The file or document can then be printed from any computer in the Library's Electronic Alley.

Available Software

Office 2007 and Internet Explorer have been installed on the laptops.

Battery Life and Performance

Laptop batteries should last for the check-out period, but use determines the life of the battery. The Library is not responsible for any work lost by battery failure.
