Web Sites

The Building and Fire Research Laboratory (BFRL)-- studies building materials; computer-integrated construction practices; fire science and fire safety engineering; and structural, mechanical, and environmental engineering. Products of the laboratory's research include measurements and test methods, performance criteria, and technical data that supports innovations by industry and are incorporated into building and fire standards and codes.

Federal Emergency Management Agency Online--The FEMA web site is updated each hour per day, so you'll always have the latest information relevant to national emergencies. FEMA web pages are organized into several major sections, each with its own main subject or homepage page. There is a Virtual Library and an online catalog but please note: As its name implies, the Online Card Catalog (OCC) is the index that provides bibliographic access only to the collection of the National Emergency Training Center's (NETC) Learning Resource Center (LRC). The OCC will function for Internet users as a database on fire service and emergency management topics. Its fundamental service to Internet users is one of identification.

Fire Fighting Occupations (Occupational Outlook Handbook) -- Job opportunities and employment forecasts in the field.

Firehouse -- A companion to Firehouse Magazine, as well as a collection of approximately 10,000 links to information and commentary related to resuce, safety, and emergency medical services workers and firefighters.

Fire Protection Engineering and Center for Firesafety Studies (of the Worcester Polytechnic Institute)-- Research conducted at the Center for Firesafety Studies has involved fire protection engineering students and faculty as well as those from other academic departments, including civil engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science and management. Research thrusts have included firesafety evaluation methods for buildings, submarines and ocean going surface vessels; explosion phenomenon; modeling the fire performance of building structures; fire detection and suppression; and risk management techniques. For researchers, this site includes The WPI Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection online.

National Fire Plan -- A "cooperative, long-term effort among various governmental agency partners" to respondo to severe wildland fires and their impact on communities.

National Fire Protection Association --NFPA has been a worldwide leader in providing fire, electrical, and life safety to the public since 1896. The mission of the international nonprofit organization is to reduce the worldwide burden of fire and other hazards on the quality of life by providing and advocating scientifically based consensus codes and standards, research, training and education. The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has developed a system for indicating the health, flammability and reactivity hazards of chemicals.

National Interagency Fire Center -- Nine-agency partnership providing current fire information, wildland fire statistics, outreach, prevention, and education information, as well as information on safety, science and technology and training and qualifications. A helpful page of links to related sites focuses on reports/reviews/publications, training, cooperating agencies, international sites, and more.
