Course Description:

FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING
Prerequisite: Appropriate score on math placement test or MTH-090. This course introduces the basics of financial accounting with emphasis on accounting as an information system which aids in the decision-making process. The focus is on the analysis and classifying of accounting information necessary for the preparation of external general-purpose financial statements. Topics include transaction analysis, development of financial reports, the accounting cycle, accruals and deferrals, receivables, payables, payroll, promissory notes, inventory costing, plant assets and depreciation methods, corporate equity concepts, bonds payable, and present value. Students with no high school or career accounting background, who believe they need introductory work, should take BUS 107 prior to taking this course. (4 contact hours)Course  

Recommended Skills:

Section 300 is an online course and is taught via the Internet. Successful online students are self-disciplined, posses good study habits, have good time management skills, and are willing to invest the extra time and effort needed to keep up with class assignments on their own. 

Students enrolled in this class should have a working knowledge of personal computer basics, must have a MVCC email account, know how to send and receive attachments, use spell check, and be able to "Copy," "Cut" and "Paste" information from one document to another. Students without these skills are strongly recommended to successfully complete IMS-100 or IMS-101 prior to taking this course. Additional Subheading:

Read the first Chapter prior to the start of class. Students should review the course website, clicking on all the buttons.  There are assignments DUE by the end of the first week!  Details will be provided on the Blackboard course website.  This course has specific due dates for assignments, quizzes and tests.

This course section will be taught using an online learning management system called Blackboard, which is available via the Internet.  Your course will become available in Blackboard on the official course start date listed on the class schedule. You are expected to login to and participate at that time.
