Course Description:

This course is designed to help students understand and use the basics of grammar and punctuation with simple, compound and complex sentences, and to use these sentences to develop effective paragraphs.

Course Expectations:

COM 085-300: Students will be working primarily from home using Blackboard [Bb], a Web course management system, Sentence Skills with Readings, Fourth edition, by Langan and Langan.. All papers for the course will be submitted via email as attached files in either .doc, .docx, or .rtf format.  All exams for the course will be taken online. The Bb site for this course will be activated on the first official day of the semester.

Recommended Skills:

Students should be self-disciplined, have a working knowledge of word processing, and have a current Moraine Valley Student email address. Students must use their @student.morainevalley.edu address for all email communication in this course.

Access to the Course and Blackboard:

This course section will be taught using an online learning management system called Blackboard, which is available via the Internet.  Your course will become available in Blackboard on the official course start date listed on the class schedule. You are expected to login to and participate at that time.

Your username and password for Blackboard is listed on the printed student schedule you receive in the mail. You can retrieve this information electronically using the "Find out your username" and "Find out your password" links available on the Online Learning Website at: http://online.morainevalley.edu.
